Liuwa Plains Camp
Liuwa Plains National Park, Zambia
This camp is designed for the world famous Liuwa National Park, which hosts the second largest wildebeest migration in the world. The design is targeting a Net Zero Carbon Embodied Energy Rating and uses no hardwood or concrete. Due to its isolated location the camp treats its own black water and uses a large PV solar array for all its energy needs. Due to the prolonged wet season the canvas aspects of the camp can be dismantled leaving just the timber deck. During the wet season this deck has been designed to encourage endangered bird species such as breeding Crowned Crane’s to nest on it. The local Lozi tribe and their famous Kuomboka ceremony inspire the interior design of the camp.
